Pontiac deserves a leader with experience, integrity, and a commitment to progress. I’m Gill Garrett, and I’m running for Mayor to bring strong leadership, financial stability, and community-driven solutions to our city.
With a deep-rooted dedication to public service, I currently serve as Chair of the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) and sit on the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Board of Directors, ensuring that communities like ours are represented at the national level. As a Board Director for the Michigan Association of School Boards and Past President Emeritus of the Pontiac School District, I have fought for quality education, fiscal accountability, and student success.
Beyond education, I proudly serve as Chair of Centro Multicultural La' Familia, the largest Latino nonprofit in Oakland County, advocating for equity and inclusion. My leadership extends to my lifelong commitment to service, as a third-generation Prince Hall Free and Accepted Mason, a founding chartered member of Shriners Temple MIRZA 273, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star—organizations dedicated to charity, brotherhood, and uplifting our communities.
Pontiac needs bold leadership with a clear vision. My S.A.F.E. initiative—which brought success in education—will now focus on safer neighborhoods, accountability, financial stability, and economic growth for our city.

Proven Leadership: As the President Emeritus of the Pontiac School Board, current Director of National Association Of School Boards and Michigan Association of School Board of Directors current Law Enforcement Officer and current Board Chair of Centro Multi Cultural La’Famila, his leadership is built on experience, action, and a vision for a stronger, safer, and more united city. He will bring this same dedication to moving our community forward—together.

Public Safety Expertise: With 26 years of experience in law enforcement, he has dedicated his career to ensuring public safety through community policing, strengthening neighborhood associations, and bridging the gap between businesses and the community. With understanding that a safe city is a thriving city, he is committed to proactive strategies that build trust, reduce crime, and create a collaborative approach to public safety. His goal is to leverage his experience to implement policies that protect our residents, support our first responders, and foster strong partnerships that make our neighborhoods safer and more connected.

Administrative Experience: With experience serving on the Charter Commission that passed the current charter, working as a City Council liaison, and contributing as a member of the transition team for the current Mayor, he knows how to navigate the various levels of city government effectively to drive meaningful progress for our community.

Community-Driven: As chair of Centro Multi Cultural La’Famila and a recipient of the 2024 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, he will continue to be a leader who listens, a voice for the people, and a champion for a stronger, more united community.
